July 10, 2026 “Choosing the Next Faithful Step!”

I hope wherever you are, you know Recovery is with you right where you are.

Here is an update on my mental health.

Because of chronic constipation, my psychiatrist and I are slowly reducing some of my medications. Two of the medications I take can cause constipation as a side effect.

Our goal is to improve my physical health while maintaining my mental health. So far, I have noticed little impact on my mood and a very slight improvement with the constipation.

Earlier this week, I met with my therapist. My psychiatrist has encouraged me to join two different therapy groups. One focuses on cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT). The other offers guided meditation through an app.

During my therapy session, we talked about whether I need more treatment. I shared the different therapy approaches I have learned and practiced over the years. I wondered, How much more do I really need?

My therapist offered a helpful suggestion. She encouraged me to first identify a healthy baseline for both my mental and physical health. Then, determine what may be getting in the way of my Recovery. This can help me see the next steps to improve my health.

One possible path is to take a break from formal therapy and structured groups. It may be time to give myself the gift of simply living life rather than always focusing on my health. I would continue taking my medication and attending my support groups while allowing myself space to enjoy each day of my life in its present condition.

I will bring this decision to God and ask for His guidance. Life is full of choices. We make them every day. But are we choosing wisely?

None of us is born knowing how to make wise decisions. It is something we learn over time. The wisdom we gain through Recovery helps us become better decision-makers.

When you have an important decision to make, try consulting your future self. Imagine yourself twenty years from now, looking back on this moment. What loving advice would your future self give you? Then, dare to honor that wisdom.

Our choices always have consequences. That is one of life’s great truths. Recovery invites us to make choices that lead to healing, peace, and hope. Those are choices we rarely regret.

Remember, Recovery is happening right now, in this moment.
