The other day, I read about the temptation of Jesus in the desert. The tempter questioned who Jesus was. But Jesus did not allow anything to come between Him and His Father.
As I reflected on this story, I began to ask myself, Do I allow anything to come between me and my Recovery? This is not meant to sound gloomy. Recovery asks for steady effort and a deep desire to connect with a power greater than ourselves.
Along the path of Recovery, temptations can slowly wear us down. They try to pull us away from healthy habits, like attending a weekly support group, using morning time for spiritual reflection, or staying connected instead of choosing isolation.
Recovery is about stepping in fully. It is about discovering who we truly are and feeling the joy that comes from clearing away anything that stands between us and healing. This is not gloomy work. It is freeing.
Sometimes, making changes during Recovery is necessary. These changes are gifts we give to our Recovery. When we remove what blocks our growth, we give ourselves the chance to become our best selves.
Let us turn away from anything that tries to steal our focus from Recovery. May Recovery be a joyful time of offering beautiful gifts to ourselves and to those who walk beside us on the path of healing.
Remember, Recovery is here right now, in this very moment.
