November 4, 2025 “Becomiong a Light in Recovery!”

How do we become a light in Recovery? What does this really mean, and what does it look like?

The light is Recovery living inside of us. It shines when we remember that we are good and worthy of healing. When darkness shows up—through anger, fear, or pain—we can respond by speaking and living from that inner light.

So how do we share this light with others? We do it through kindness, compassion, and thoughtfulness, even when others are angry or unkind toward us. In ancient times, Roman soldiers forced people to carry their gear for one mile. Some chose to go an extra mile. Imagine a soldier asking, “Why did you do that?” Recovery teaches us to serve others—especially those in power and pain—not because we have to, but because it’s part of the fabric of healing.

A beautiful result of living this way is that people notice our peace and kindness. In Recovery, it’s just as important to receive help as it is to freely give it. We bring Recovery to life when we show mercy, grace, and love in our daily actions toward people.

Can we share encouraging words even when others reject or stigmatize us? Can we celebrate someone else’s success without comparing or competing? Can we see the light of goodness in ourselves, even on hard days?

The question remains: Are we the same person in both the light and dark places of our hearts?

Let us be generous. Let us go the extra mile. As we do, we will feel Recovery connect directly to our hearts—shining brighter with every act of love.
