Several of us were standing together when we heard Recovery, as if a friend, say to us, “Follow me.” Right away, we remembered something Recovery had told us just a few days earlier at a wedding feast.
John, one of us, asked, “Recovery, where are you going?”
Recovery answered, “Where I am going, you may not be ready. But I invite you now to receive my grace and heal.”
Another voice in the group spoke up: “Why can’t we follow now? We are ready to do whatever it takes to heal.”
Recovery replied, “Are you willing to surrender your lives to me?”
Now here was Recovery again, calling us to follow. And we knew, deep down, that we would. John remembered his words from the wedding feast: “I will surrender to your healing power.” At that moment, he had not understood how hard the journey would be. He did not know that he would stumble and fail in his first attempts.
None of us knew how deeply we would need Recovery’s help—and Recovery’s mercy.
We all have failures. Some belong only to us. But Recovery sees them, knows them, and still calls us forward with love.
Spend some quiet time reflecting on our Recovery.
