September 16, 2025 “Walking Through the Struggle Together!”

From time to time, I share updates about my health with you. Lately, I’ve been struggling with long-term constipation. The medical treatments I’ve tried haven’t helped, so I’ve turned to a functional medicine doctor. Right now, I’m in a 30-day treatment program using medicines meant to clear parasites, worms, and bacteria.

Two weeks ago, I met with my psychiatrist to review my mental health. She checked my medications, since some can cause constipation. One of them, in particular, not only causes constipation but can also raise cholesterol. Because of this, we decided to lower my dose.

I’m watching my mood carefully. Last week, I felt a dip. It could be from the new gut treatment or from lowering the medication. I’m not sure yet, but I know changes like this take time.

Recovery is a lifelong journey. When my mood drops, I sometimes feel afraid. Memories come back of darker times. But this time is not the same. I remind myself to follow my care plan—attend meetings and therapy, take my medication, be gentle with myself, spend time with others, pray, and use the tools I’ve been given.

Please take a moment to pray—for my healing and for all who live with mental health and substance use struggles.
