Have we had moments when Recovery reaches into the depths of our unknowing to reveal a joy we could never understand? I am the stepfather to three beautiful women. They are learning the skills necessary to navigate life’s joys and sorrows. My wife and I have the opportunity to watch them grow and offer support to them.
When they come home for a visit I sometimes secretly allow myself to say, “I am so blessed to be a part of their lives”. In an instant, this comes to me and I had no idea it was there. This unimaginable love comes from my heart. When I entered Recovery I didn’t know, I didn’t know, the importance of loving myself to understand how to love others.
When we reach this point, it is what a child does. It opens our hearts to joy, love, kindness, and goodness a desire to want to know these things. In that desire, we begin to feel the awesome spirit of healing and Recovery.
