January 13, 2025 Learning is Childlike-Joyful!

When I facilitate a support group, communicate with a peer by phone or email, and meet with a person initially suffering, I introduce them to the good news of Recovery and the joy and miracles it offers. During their participation, some are filled with indescribable awe of the beauty and extraordinary blessings Recovery offers.

When we trust Recovery it is the result of being like a child as opposed to those who think they know something. When we have a childlike persona we humble ourselves and understand the joy of Recovery. When I began Recovery, over thirty years ago, I was completing a degree in psychology. Mentally I suffered from depression and anxiety. I began going to a 12-step support group and thought I was a learned person, someone who knew what it would take to heal.

Then in graduate school and after graduation, I began to learn more, much deeper and with an open heart. I began to realize I thought I knew but I didn’t. Too often when we think we know, we act like we think we know, it doesn’t give much room because there is so much we don’t know.

Recovery is teaching me to approach with faith, recognizing my faith in Recovery needs growth. We think like human beings, not the 12-steps. God (Higher Power) is far beyond our capacity to understand. God is far beyond our capability of knowing he reaches into the depths of our unknowing to reveal to us a joy that we could never fathom. When we have a down day remember it is temporary, we don’t need to react, and place faith in our Recovery by working the steps, attending a support group, guiding a person struggling to a support group, or listening to a person in need or finding a person willing to be with you during a difficult moment. https://superhumanbeing.net/thursday-zoom-event/
