January 10, 2025 What’s Under Our Roof?

Step 7 of Recovery is, “We humbly ask our Higher Power to reveal his unconditional love and ongoing presence within us. For practical purposes what does this look like in our lives? Each week at our Sunday service, I can say, “Lord I am not worthy to have you come under my roof but only say the word and my soul shall be healed”. It is like having someone stop by our house unannounced and see more of how we live. This is personal and there is no time to clean up the house before the visitor arrives.

The visitor sees the good, the bad, and the ugly of our living environment. We may not want to think about our life, faith, and healing in Recovery. It is safer to keep people and God at arm’s length and yet the truth is we are intimately loved by God and the special people in our lives.

God and the people we interact with see our goodness. We seek a relationship with the 12 steps of Recovery not solely for ourselves but to share with those people we love and care about. This speaks about our amazing compassion and love. It reminds us of the unconditional love and presence of God needed under our roof at home, office, or school. It is personalized for it is here where healing and hope lives.

God speaks to us through our close family members and friends. It is a voice crying out to us in the wilderness to embrace Recovery. Recovery visits us with compassion, mercy, forgiveness, and healing. Step 7 echos hauntingly to invite Recovery into our lives under our roof at home, roof of our community, and in other locations we visit.

Let us walk in the light of healing and discover how each of us can implement Step 7 into our lives.
