January 9, 2025 Things Unseen!

Ellen (a fictional person) is journeying to Eau Claire, WI, to face her destiny. She is anxious to share with people what she will be going through and what the world will go through. She notices that those in the community only look at material wealth and pay attention to people who are achieving rewards for themselves. She asks herself, “Who is paying attention to the Recovery and healing needs of our community?”

Ellen shares all the difficulties she sees in Eau Claire such as a lack of mental health resources, and adequate care for those suffering from substance misuse, things that are difficult to accept, and acknowledge. She says, “It’s not what I don’t understand about Recovery and healing, it is what I do understand about the 12 steps that troubles me”.

How are we confronting our sadness, anxiety, and trauma? God (Higher Power) is the God of hope. He continues to speak, forgive, and love us amid chaos. Even when things seem unfair, he is still present, waiting for us to open our minds, hearts, and souls to him.

Each day we are charged to be the best that we can be even in the midst of difficult moments, even in the midst of difficult times, even amid disappointment and betrayal. We are children of God and our hope continues. We can be dissuaded to look upon temporary things. We are to look at things that manage and support our Recovery. There lies our hope.

Happiness is temporary, joy is eternal, joy comes from our soul, happiness comes from our flesh. This does not mean we should not be happy. We should be happy when looking at our lives and appreciate where we are, and who we are. This is what thanksgiving is about – “Being thankful and Being happy”. All this is underlined with joy. Maybe Ellen is onto something!
