Have you ever sat and listened to a wise tale? I remember growing up attending a family event. My uncle was obsessed with fishing especially after he retired. He shared with us his various catches and was free to tell us his fish stories. He told us he was on a boat with several other people bragging about catching the biggest fish. He said, “It was this big”. We knew he liked embellishing the size of the fish he caught.
This story brings to mind the amazing catch Recovery brings to our lives. This has little to do with us and more with our healing. Recovery tells us the truth about what that catch means. It means sadness, suffering, pain, anxiety, joy, kindness, peace, and light. This is good news but we may be overcome with grief because initially, we may not understand. Recovery is unearned and undeserved – it waits for us to open our hearts and be fed with its healing power.
Let us give praise to the tremendous catch Recovery has called us to, not because we are wise, good, or talented at healing. No, because we are recipients of a tremendous gift amid imperfect lives that calls us from the shore to embrace the glory of Recovery.
