If we observe a Potterer working at their wheel and it turns out wrong they will start all over again to get the exact shape they want. The message Recovery has for the Potterer at the wheel is clear. As the Potterer has total control over their clay and makes of it what they will, Recovery is the master of us. Recovery says, “Yes, as the clay is in the Potterer’s hand, we are in our healing community.
Recovery teaches us we can make as many plans for our lives as we like but in the end, we are subject to circumstances beyond our control. This does not mean we go through life passively like spectators and allow culture to direct our lives. As people of Recovery, we are called to seek Recovery’s will in our lives.
Life, freedom, and peace make Recovery’s will and we will become one. Healing creates the very best vessel possible for that to happen. Recovery needs our cooperation by allowing ourselves to be molded by it. We can live our lives to the fullest. The Potterer’s example is the accumulation of our life on earth.
There will be times when we may step away from Recovery. Those who remain will continue our practice and welcome back our brothers and sisters when they are ready to return. The best is to embrace Recovery today and every day. To live well, be content, and be at ease in what Recovery teaches us.
If we freely and lovingly cooperate with the grace of healing we will truly begin to live.
