“We gain insight into our recovery through our Higher Power as we model these steps, and share our journey toward hope, healing, and health with people” – This is the twelfth step of Recovery. During the early stages of Recovery, I recall the people who exposed the steps to me. They modeled what it takes to become a whole person. I continue to be blessed by people who demonstrate a deeper understanding of the fulfillment of the truth and hand it on to me.
The steps and their tradition are not just something we receive but are internalized, shared, and perpetually renewed for the next generation to benefit from the miracle of healing. People in Recovery realize the responsibility of educating other newbies. Some people have shared their legacy of Recovery with me; because I succeed them, I need to hand it down to others.
It is not an easy path. However, it is a path that can sustain and motivate even in times of great difficulty. Sometimes, I am slow to understand what other people proclaim about Recovery. There is a tapestry my Higher Power (for me God) is weaving into my life. I am attempting to hand onto others what I am learning about Recovery. I took a risk to write a book about my journey https://superhumanbeing.net/, I write a blog Monday through Friday https://superhumanbeing.net/blog/, and facilitate a support group on Thursday evenings from 6-7:00 p.m. https://superhumanbeing.net/thursday-zoom-event/
Recovery may not exist today if not for people willing to be vulnerable and self-disclose their experiences. These people were not perfect, nor am I. We can bring good to our lives and people can bring good fruit to our lives. Internalize the faith Recovery offers and hand it down to other people.
