August 15, 2024 Connection & Companionship!

A good storyteller tells the narrative of 2 things happening at the same time, one inside the other. There are two stories on opposing sides. A person is in behavior treatment at a local hospital and wants to recover from a mental health condition. Another person who suffers from addiction believes they can get better by connecting with a peer who is pursuing mental health well-being.

The person with an addiction is connected with a peer specialist. The person has faith they will get better because of the support they will receive from the specialist. They believe with this gesture they will be healed.

On the other side, a person in behavioral health treatment receives family support. Family members demonstrate compassion, care, and love toward this person.

In between the sandwich pattern of these events invites us to see each event in the light of the other. The unifying part of both stories is connection and companionship. Both of the individuals are to be given something to eat. Relationships feed and nourish our faith amid so many fearful things in life today among them mental health challenges, addiction, and trauma.

What feeds each of us is connections to other people. This includes people who support people with mental and emotional challenges as well as those with a stable frame of mind.
