Recovery and healing are not actions we conform to or do as someone does or by following steps in a book. Recovery and healing honor our true nature, which means our limitations and our potential.
Our actions toward healing look different from other people. Recovery is not rules or a moral yardstick. Recovery is facing reality otherwise known as radical acceptance.
Living in reality means identifying our limits and potential. It is better to be whole than to be perfect. By exploring who we are, learning about ourselves, pursuing who we are meant to be, and taking action we find our purpose in life.
When others support our actions it is wonderful. When others do not support our actions or deny them, it will get messy for us. We may be hurt, get angry, and resent others around us. When we realize this something new and liberating arises within us. Trust our hearts to take us where we need to go.
Reflection:
“When you develop enough self-understanding you hold open the possibility you will find teaching and learning; accept the invitation” (Adapted from Parker Palmer, “Let Your Life Speak”).
