Many peers in Recovery are willing to take a risk and be vulnerable by sharing their stories. Peers tell people what they see, and hear, and the steps they are taking to Recover.
When I began Recovery my life was dark. Thoughts dominated my daily conversation with myself. Those thoughts were; “You’re no good”, “You better be perfect”, “The world is a frightening place to live”, “Push your body to exhaustion”, “Your bad”, and a menu of other thoughts. Authoring my book, “SuperHuman Being” allowed me to work through my thinking, decrease fear and anxiety, and let go of hurt and anger.
Healing began to sprout inside of me by connecting with peers and other people. Their direction, coaching, and willingness to share the process of Recovery allowed me to reverse my thoughts and tame feelings. Their care for my wellness drives out sadness, mourning, and betrayal.
My peers and friends are not allowing the darkness and stinking thinking to run my life. I notice a softening in my heart which was only a dream for many years. I am seeing evidence of health and wellness in my life. I am increasing connections with people, eating right, setting aside morning meditation time, and writing a companion book full of daily reflections.
What is important to me as I look to the future? Living a life of kindness, and goodness, speak to others out of love, balanced temperament, and (self-compassion) and compassion for people.
Peace
Larry
