Recovery is a mystical experience about healing and the 12 steps. Imagine we are in a cabin deep in the woods. On the outside of the cabin door, branches are peeking through the wood planks as if the door has not been open for a while. The branches cover half of the door and it is dark outside. A person far along in their recovery prepares to knock on the door with a lantern.
The door has no handle on the outside. While the person in Recovery patiently waits, it is up to us to open the door and receive support from the person in Recovery. When we open the door the person enters our house and dines with us.
When we allow people in Recovery to be part of our lives we can receive love without limits or conditions. The destiny we seek is our friendship with the 12 steps. This is not hopeless but a gift offering peace, joy, and happiness.
Self-sufficiency is not our mission. Self-giving love ends our alienation allowing us to experience the mystery of Recovery. This will show up in unexpected places and times. Like the check-out line at the grocery store, during rush hour traffic, and unexpected kindness from a person, and like now.
Peace
Larry
