Each day I have a routine of activities that I perform that support my Recovery. I like to refer to them as a “Labor of Love”. Let me explain.
My daily activities include; taking my medication, preparing a menu of healthy foods, writing my daily blog, two days a week I attend a support group, exercising which includes cardio and strength training, prayer, marketing my book, and having time for leisure activities (puzzles, time with family and friends, and biking).
So what does this have to do with “A Labor of Love”? There are days when I become tired of my daily routine and the urge to avoid doing an activity is strong. I attempt to justify to myself that skipping a day won’t matter. However, this is simply not true. Skipping one day can turn into two, three, etc.
There are days that I cruise through my routine seemingly with little effort. Then there are days when it feels like I am walking into a 50 mph wind. In those moments I remind myself that Recovery is “A Labor of Love” and in these weak moments, I can garner strength from God, support groups, my wife, family members, and friends.
How do you cultivate “A Labor of Love” to support your Recovery?
Peace
Larry
