John is a member of a local band that play’s several of the hits from the 80s and 90s. He has been Recovering from bipolar for over 30 years. He is open to talking about his journey, connecting people to help, and doing whatever he can to reduce societal stigma about mental illness.
Publishers of books, Maria and Pablo learned from an author they are working with the significance of the Green Bandana Project. Supporting and wearing a Green Bandanna will help change the conversation around mental health by reducing stigma affiliated with mental illness, addiction, trauma and nurtures an open exchange about mental health experiences.
One evening Maria and Pablo heard about this band that was playing at a local nightclub. Life for both of them is quite stressful due to starting a new business and moving to a new apartment. They thought it would be healthy to take a break and enjoy a night out to escape the pressures of life.
Maria and Pablo arrived just in time to hear the first set of songs. John shuffled onto the stage, picked up his guitar, and waited for the single from the lead singer to begin. Pablo recognized a Green Bandana protruding out of John’s back pocket. Pablo turned to Maria and said, “Is that what I think it is?”
Maria responded, “It is the Green Bandana that we just learned about the other day”.
After the completion of the concert Maria and Pablo were brave enough to approach John about the Green Bandana he was wearing. John was forthcoming about his bipolar disorder and his desire to help others who may be emotionally and mentally in a crisis or just want to talk.
