Today is such an awesome day. The sun is shining, and the sky is blue, with no clouds at all. I have been following the advice of one of my doctors to expose my body to the sunlight. She recommended 15 to 20 minutes on sun-shiny days. My body does not produce enough Vitamin D without supplementation and sunshine.
Our dog Sadi and I went onto our back porch to soak in the sunshine. I thought I would practice mindfulness meditation while I was waiting for 20 minutes to pass. So what did I hear and learn?
Since May construction workers have been repairing the road near our home. I noticed the sound of engines as they readied the road to be black-topped. There was a slight breeze that felt good against my back and chest. I heard several breeds of birds chirping and no doubt enjoying the beauty of the clear sky.
About 10 minutes into my sun tanning session beads of sweat appeared on my chest and arms. I noticed the sweat slowly dripping down my chest and some taking up space in my belly button. Sweat also began dripping down my back and landing on the cushion of the chair I occupied.
When my 20 minutes lapsed my body temperature had risen quite high but the experience drained some of the toxins I was holding inside my body. I actually felt refreshed.
The sub-title of my book says, “Be Present”. Mindfulness does not need to be complicated. We can do it when waiting to see our doctor, sitting in a traffic jam, waiting to pick up our sons or daughters from a sporting event, and a host of other times that fit into our schedules. We can do it for 1, 5, 10, 20, or 50 minutes again dependent on our schedules.
When we do these activities as part of our Recovery we are “SuperHuman Beings”. Be Bold, Be Imperfect, Be Present, and Recover.
Peace
Larry
