December 4, 2025 “The Gift of Hope in Recovery!”

I hope that wherever you are, you know Recovery is with you—right where you are.

Hope does not disappoint us because Recovery is poured into our hearts through the 12-steps that have been given to us. Hope is a fascinating and involved idea. When we think about hope, we might say, I wish this could happen. Recovery hope is about, I know what happens. We may not have it now, but we are living in the belief that it will happen.

Hope is one of the most precious gifts Recovery gives to us. Yet it is most tender and fragile. We hope for healing in our lives, hope for change, clarity, and direction. We hope healing acts in places where our hearts are – that certainty is one kind of hope.

Sometimes there is a different hope in Recovery. Wishing for hope is fragile. The hope in Recovery should be solid but can also be fragile, especially when the waiting is long, when life does not happen as we expected.

Hope is not something we create. Spiritual hope is something we receive. It is placed in us by active participation in a 12-step program. Hope is sustained by the love and strength of Recovery.

Recovery is the candle that rekindles a reminder of what hope is. Hope comes from our prayer or reflection. We are called to carry hope into our homes, workplaces, places of worship, and communities, not as a force of positivity or shallow optimism but as a quiet certainty. Hope becomes part of who we are.

Let’s allow our hearts to be changed, our hearts live with the confidence and assurance that hope is eternal.
