I hope that wherever you are, you know Recovery is with you—right where you are.
One of the deepest longings of our hearts is to be seen. This does not mean we want to be famous or in the spotlight. It means we want others to understand who we really are. We don’t want to be judged or known only in a shallow way. We want to be understood with kindness.
When Recovery feels heavy, when the road ahead is unclear, and when our inner burdens grow strong, we often wonder, Is Recovery still with me? The answer is yes.
It is often in the wilderness—those lonely, confusing times—that Recovery meets us. Several years ago, I had my own wilderness moment. I opened up to my girlfriend, now my wife, about the darkness, sadness, and confusion inside me. I let her see my struggle, and she met me right where I was emotionally. I believe God brought her into my life at that time to help me heal and grow in Recovery.
Recovery does not ignore the hidden parts of our lives—the places that feel empty, dry, or forgotten. Healing begins in the quiet work we do each day: being faithful to ourselves, showing compassion toward our own hearts, and facing our struggles one step at a time.
When we become honest with ourselves, we no longer measure our worth by how others respond to us. Instead, we become anchored in the 12 steps. We gain a strong identity, a sense of stability, and a peace that becomes part of our daily life.
As this peace grows, we begin to see others in a different light. We show more compassion, patience, and grace. We notice the person who feels alone. This movement of grace always begins with Recovery.
Do you feel like you are walking through a wilderness right now? Do you feel lost or unsure of the way forward? You can trust that Recovery is with you. Take a moment today to pray or reflect on one small action you can take to remember that you are enough, you are beautiful, and you can do one simple activity to support your Recovery.
