Yesterday, I attended a healing service at my Catholic church. I decided to attend because of my mental and physical struggles. The experience touched my heart and soul in a deep and beautiful way. Have you ever taken part in something like that?
The most powerful moment came when a lay minister gently placed their hands around my head and said a short prayer. Then, a priest blessed my forehead and hands with oil. This sacred act symbolizes strength, healing, and comfort—signs of the Holy Spirit’s loving presence.
After they finished with me, they continued blessing each person in the church. As I sat quietly, waiting for the priest to finish anointing others, I felt surrounded by the warmth of God’s healing power. I’m sharing this moment with you because I believe God placed it on my heart to do so.
Healing can lift our pain and suffering, but sometimes it stays with us a while longer. During my mindful meditation yesterday, the teacher said something that stayed with me: “May we hold our pain and suffering with kindness and ease toward ourselves.”
Whether my pain fully leaves or not doesn’t matter as much now. The oil reminds me that I have strength for the journey. It fills me with confidence, faith, and hope in my Recovery. I let go of guilt and shame by wrapping myself in God’s love and compassion.
