June 24, 2025 “A Picture Is Worth A Thousand Words!”

Recovery’s message fills us with wisdom, strength, and healing as we face the joys and challenges of each day. During our reflection time, we begin by quieting our minds. Then we listen for a personal invitation to divine love, and we receive wisdom to live like people working a Recovery Program every day and in each moment of the day.

I have a bedtime routine I do most nights. I start by brushing my teeth (my dentist is very pleased with me). I proceed to the bedroom to do some easy yoga exercises. Then I use lip balm, put in earplugs (because I’m a light sleeper), and apply a prescribed lotion to rub into my hands. I use three pillows to prop myself up in bed. Once I settle into bed, I look forward to the wall with a picture of Jesus and a baby lamb on his lap. In the background of the picture is a herd of adult lambs.

Before I begin reading a book, I look intently at the picture, saying to myself, “Did I serve you well today?” Jesus instructs us that doing good works is rooted in right intentions. We need to have a certain purity of intention so our healing and sacrifices come from a deep awareness that someone, Jesus, or something is working in and through us.

During my nightly routine, it is rare to hear the voice of Jesus. This is a similar journey in our Recovery. We may attend a support group 50 times before we hear the next step we can take to heal. https://superhumanbeing.net/thursday-zoom-event/ The thing for us to remember is, “To Show Up”. This means attending support groups, meeting with our therapist, taking time for prayer and reflection, meeting with our psychiatrists, and others we place our trust in. These individuals share their God (higher power) given talents to help us heal. If we say no to them, the sobering fact is we may be saying, “No” to God.
