Who are the people in our lives we consider healing witnesses, they authored in welcoming us to Recovery? Three different components define welcoming: 1. We were invited into their lives. 2. We listened to them attentively. 3. Believing they will help us gain insight into Recovery and share their journey toward hope, healing, and health.
Sometimes it is helpful to have several people on our team who befriend Recovery and bring respite when we are in need. This includes peer support, support groups, friends, and family members. Welcome them into our homes, virtually using Zoom technology and other locations in the community where we live.
I wonder about that sometimes. When I was a child my grandparents would pop by on an afternoon. They upset the plans of the day. Mom was a welcoming host who prepared extra food for the evening meal. I think about how people interrupt our plans. It is stressful to think about. People supporting us may pop in at any given time in our lives.
Listen to the words they share with us with openness for learning, understanding, and a thirst for insight. Open ourselves and come to thirst again for deeper insight and knowledge of Recovery. This comes from prayer, reflection, and mindfulness accepting our Higher Powers (God) will for us. Believing we can heal, those who offer support to us in a profound moment lead us to transform our lives and bask in the mystery of this miracle.
People in our Recovery lives invite us to participate in something beautiful. We can experience the gift people share with us and rise above pain and suffering. That is our story. It is the beauty of the 12-steps we are asked to follow. The common call is, “We are all welcome, listen, believe, and unbind the intimacy of Recovery (God)”.
Wow, that was a mouthful!
