September 16, 2024 Planting On The Rich Soil!

Today is a reflection challenging us to examine our consciousness highlighting Steps #8 and #11 (see below). Read these steps of spiritual development. Where do we stand in knowing ourselves? Then, conquer ourselves and finally give ourselves to Recovery.

To know ourselves we need to examine our conscious. In religious circles, there are 4 ways to seed the actions of our lives.

  1. Be open to walking the path of Recovery.
  2. Seed is sewn on rocky ground.
  3. Seed is sewn amongst thorns.
  4. Seed is sown on rich soil.

There are different ways we will receive the steps of Recovery. Depending on where we are at examining our consciousness eventually determines our endpoint. But we need to take time to examine our consciousness. Where the seed falls on us at any given point will not always be on rich soil or always in the thorns, or always on the rocky ground. We will find it fluctuates each day or week or month or however we are moved to the spirit of our Higher Power (God) or not at all.

This is a practical way for us to achieve the objectives of steps #8 and #11.

  1. Read the steps.
  2. Meditate on the steps.
  3. Ask the Higher Power (God) to help us understand where we are at right now.

What is blocking us from sowing the rich seed in our minds, hearts, and souls? If it is the rocky ground where we are full of joy and something happens to take away our joy, how do we keep everlasting joy in our hearts? What is blocking the joy from entering the thorns?

Are we ready to receive steps #8 and #11, share them with people, and ready to live the steps? When anxiety rises because life happens, what will we do to plant seeds on rich soil? Those of us who live in rich soil help people on these other paths to bring them to rich soil. Before we do this we need to live on fertile ground. This is our challenge for today.

Step #8-We acknowledge our behaviors have impacted our relationships. We list those affected by our behavior and whenever possible become willing to reconcile or thank them for their support during a relapse or mental health crisis.

Step #11-We come to recognize our shortcomings during recovery, while discovering our Higher Power is the source of our strength and mercy, we learn to rely on our Higher Power for the courage to heal through prayer, reflection, mindfulness, and when necessary seek professional support.
