December 13, 2023 Whirlybird Cafe

Yesterday was my book signing at the Whirlybird Cafe in Chippewa Falls Wisconsin. When I set up for the event, I told one of the owners that selling three books was my goal. I was pleasantly surprised that I sold three books in the first hour.

Throughout the morning there was a steady dose of people stopping by to purchase a book. When I took the final tally at 1:00 p.m., thirteen books were sold. I felt blessed by the hospitality the Cafe showed me. People who bought the book enjoyed a $5 coupon for a beverage of their choice. Whirlybird contributed $2.50 for each coupon handed out and I contributed $2.50.

I have been reflecting on yesterday’s event. It was great selling a number of books but what I enjoyed most was the conversations I had with people. Whenever someone shares their story with me I am grateful that they take the risk. For some people who share with me, it is the first time they have done so, other people want to learn what they can do to support a loved one with a mental health condition, addiction, and trauma, other people just need to know they are not alone, and some people want to know what works to improve their condition.

In each conversation I had with someone I spent a great deal of time listening. With that said, I could have repeated in my head or directly to them, “Me too”, “Me too” as I listened to their stories. Most of us who began our journey early in our lives find how similar we all are. People diagnosed with depression, anxiety, bipolar, schizophrenia, addiction, trauma, etc., may find it difficult to hold a job, maintain social relationships, and cope with life changes and other activities of daily living.

I hope this event will allow people to Be Bold, Be Imperfect, Be Present, and Recover.

Peace

Larry
