I hope wherever you are, you know Recovery is with you right where you are.
Recovery invites us to travel light. This is a gift. Life is too short to carry heavy burdens. Why is it important to travel light? It is not because our feelings are bad or get in the way. We do not need to avoid our feelings or fear them. In Recovery, we learn to accept our feelings with honesty, compassion, and care.
A healthy Recovery believes in hope. It does not teach us to ignore or reject our feelings. Instead, it helps us understand them. We are not meant to let pride block our healing. Our feelings can guide us toward our needs, growth, and even joy.
So why travel light? Because holding on to unhelpful feelings for too long can weigh us down. These feelings can make it harder to connect with others. Feelings matter, but people matter more.
When we carry too many heavy emotions, we can feel stuck. Recovery calls us to grow, to move forward, and to live fully. Life is an adventure. But when we pile up old pain, we stop moving. We become watchers instead of seekers.
I have lived this truth. For many years, I pushed aside sadness, anger, anxiety, and bitterness from my childhood. In 2015, those feelings rose all at once. They became a deep mental, emotional, and spiritual crisis.
It felt like I was carrying a heavy sack of potatoes on my back. I knew I could not keep living that way. So I began to process my feelings and learned to let go. I chose to travel light and learn new ways to live.
What can you do right now to lighten your load in life?
How would you like to walk forward in your Recovery?
Remember, Recovery is here right now, in this very moment.
