I hope that wherever you are, you know Recovery is with you—right where you are.
As we continue our theme of surrender, remember that Recovery often speaks to us even before we know what we need to hear. This is the kind of maturity that comes from listening without conditions. It’s a quiet readiness of the heart.
I remember when I was a boy, I used to try to bargain with God. I would say, “If You help us win this game, I’ll be good.” Looking back, I see how immature that was—thinking I could trade my behavior for what I wanted.
Recovery maturity invites us to surrender to stillness even when life feels messy and loud. It teaches us to stop asking for something long enough to learn how to sit, breathe, and wait for the voice of Recovery to speak.
Being still means letting go of the things we cling to. Being still means we stop trying to bargain with Recovery. It means stepping away from the comfort of certainty and into the mystery of the unknown. It means releasing unanswered prayers, grief, chaos, frustration, and hurt.
Stillness is not just sitting in silence. It is an intentional choice to release control. In that space, we trust that God—the higher power—is ready to speak to our minds and hearts. We want to be open for whatever Recovery has in store.
Recovery does not ask us to hold everything together. Recovery invites us to be led. Listening begins with letting go—opening our ears, minds, and hearts to the prayers or reflections guiding us. We cannot uncover the wisdom of Recovery when we cling tightly to our own plans, pressures, or fears.
Stillness is not running away. It is a sacred pause. Recovery invites us to step off the treadmill of our busy lives and enter a small sanctuary of peace. We often don’t realize how much noise we carry inside. But stillness creates space for the higher power to speak and for our hearts to settle.
In that quiet space, we remember: Recovery is Recovery—and it is always with us.
Right now, take two minutes, clear your mind, and sit in silence. You may not hear anything right away, but with steady practice, Recovery will begin to show you an honest direction for your life.
