Sometimes our image of Recovery—it’s dying, healing, and rising into new life—is like a plane in the sky ascending to 30,000 feet. The control tower sends occasional directions… but from a distance. Recovery begins with dying to an old way of living and then ascending to a new way of functioning.
Recovery teaches us that whoever loves Recovery will embrace the steps. And when we love Recovery, it comes to us and makes a dwelling in our hearts.
The dying, healing, and rising form a circle. God—our higher power—promises to remain with us regardless of our circumstances. With God, the circle is completed within us. Jesus came back to reside permanently in our bodies. We can’t see his Spirit, nor do we have a concrete image of Recovery. But just as we cannot see electricity yet trust its power to light our homes, we know Recovery – God is present and alive in us.
And there is more. Recovery invites us to climb to 30,000 feet and still live fully here on earth. We are called to do this not once, but over and over again. This is how we manage our symptoms of mental health and substance misuse.
God is in Recovery… and Recovery is in us. God wants us to fly with Him, even as we walk here on earth.
Peace
Larry
