There are five of us at Peter’s house, in a small fishing village along the Mississippi River. The sun drifts toward the horizon. The trees and wildflowers are lush, yet the mood is heavy.
Peter, the take-charge one, finally speaks. His boat and gear are ready on the shore. “I’m going fishing. Anyone want to join me?” We all agree. Anything seems better than sitting around.
We push off into the river. Crickets sing. Fireflies dance. A soft breeze brushes our faces. For a moment, life feels lighter. But hours pass. Not one fish. The conversation fades. The night grows long.
What’s missing? This river once held peace, even without a catch.
Then it hits us—God – higher power, is absent. When He becomes part of our recovery, life no longer feels empty despite our circumstances. One of us finally speaks the truth, and slowly, we begin to talk it out.
