It’s just after six on a Thursday evening, and something has awakened in Dawn. After a conversation with someone in Recovery, she ran to the support group, declaring her commitment to healing. Now, on her second trip back, she’s running the same route—this time with fire in her soul.
The streets are still buzzing from yesterday’s church summerfest, but Dawn doesn’t notice the stares. She’s caught in a moment of clarity. “It’s like waking up from a bad dream. No—it’s more. It’s the greatest day of my life.”
She murmurs as she runs, “I’m ready—ready to feel relief, to walk patiently from darkness into light, and to surrender to God’s (higher power) will.”
Bursting into the meeting, she cries, “I will do whatever it takes to heal from my mental health and substance misuse conditions!”
The room stirs. Her voice trembles with hope, her eyes shine with grace. Dawn has tasted the miracle of Recovery—and now, she’s running toward it with her whole heart.
