During my meditation time this morning, I was reading an inspiring story reminding me about Recovery. I came up with a simple motto, “Recovery Alone.” Those two words sum up my entire life’s mission.
The twelfth step states, “…We model these steps, making them real in our lives and supporting the growth of our brothers and sisters in Recovery.” Recovery is about consuming practices that help us manage our symptoms, and we are also summoned to take what we receive and share it with people.
In our work, we outline a path for us to give our lives entirely to Recovery by entrusting ourselves to the twelve steps or another program that helps us heal. We don’t need to travel through France, preaching, teaching, and promoting Recovery. Our hearts can be full of compassion in our communities, neighborhoods, and homes for people with mental health or substance misuse conditions. We can believe in lifting people’s spirits by helping them grow in Recovery; in return, we consume the fruits of our labor, aiding our well-being.
Consuming the practices of “Recovery Alone” leads us deeper into love, compassion, relationship with God (higher power), and forgiveness. What can we do today to offer support to a brother or sister in Recovery?
