May 21, 2025 “The Miracle of Three’s!”

I have been experiencing an increase in sadness, irritability, anxiety, and feeling like I could jump out of my skin. I am communicating with my therapist, psychiatrist, doing mindfulness, and showing compassion toward myself. The last two days have been better for me. When I suffer, I contemplate what it may mean for my Recovery.

Beginning last week, I wrote about the practice of letting go or also known as surrendering. This theme came up during my daily reflection time and was emphasised in the Depressed Anonymous Manual we use in a support group I attend. How do we determine God’s (higher power) will in our lives? I use the concept of 3’s. When determining the action I need to take, I hear God’s voice three separate times. God speaks to me through people, reading (Bible), and taking action.

His current message to me is, “Surrender to my will.” In Recovery, we search for the impossible, we take the very difficult journey from within to relent and surrender and allow God’s will to be done in us. That is the purpose of Recovery to draw closer and closer to healing with God.

We let go of many things along the road of Recovery. One is viewing ourselves as the higher power, feeding our pride and ego. Even when we let go of this and don’t have love, it is nothing. Letting go and loving are mutually inclusive. Our responsibility is to be close to Recovery and God’s (higher power) will for us because our healing depends on it.

During the last few weeks, I have heard God’s voice remind me to let go and surrender to him. It does not necessarily extinguish all my suffering. But I rely on him being beside me, and if I fall, I know he will be behind me to pick me up and offer me spiritual food for the journey.
