Still our hearts and souls by resting in the comfort we know Recovery offers us, still listening, still loving, still forgiving, and still merciful. The 12 steps have not changed over time despite various renditions being presented to us. They each have common themes: Recovery is possible, we are powerless, we have a plan for Recovery, we rely on God (higher power), healing occurs through relationships, we let go of shortcomings, we recognize Recovery is a journey, and we share our progress with others.
I have participated in several retreats during my lifetime. Some retreats have been work-related, others to help me understand my mental health condition, and still others to deepen my relationship with Christ. I pay special attention to what my heart and soul are saying. There are moments of clarity and others where all I hear is static. If I am patient and disciplined, the retreats will last longer than three to five days, and the practices I learn will last longer than three to five days.
Our lives are transformed when we spend time with our hearts and souls; our Recovery never ends. Every moment of every day, we hope we can grow closer to Recovery. Then, when we wake up each day, we say, “Recovery, what are we going to do today?”
