The parable of the peer in Recovery and those people who receive support from their peer, helps us recognize the healing in the words of Recovery in our lives. The parable is familiar to us since we can never tire of reflecting on what it means for our spiritual life. The peer goes out to share wisdom and knowledge with those who want support to heal.
Some words fell on deaf ears. Some words fell on people who had rocky hearts and lacked a heartfelt commitment. Some words grew up but were later choked off by family, friends, and social media. But some words fell on compassionate hearts and produced plenty of active healing. The Peer in Recovery is the word and our hearts, minds, and lives are the people receiving support to heal.
The interior space known only to our Higher Power (God) is the location of the mystery of spiritual healing and gain an understanding what Recovery is and who we are in relationship to Recovery. It is the interior place where we come to live in the dept of Recovery’s infinite love, forgiveness, and mercy poured out to every one of us.
So how do we prepare our hearts and souls? The words and actions of Recovery will bare a great abundance in us through perseverance in the 12-steps as a light for our daily path. Through silent reflection that allows us to truly hear our Higher Power speak to us in his word and heal us. As we prepare our hearts and souls by acts of faith, trust, and deep confidence in the path of Recovery, peers and support groups can help us grow.
Search for the spiritual message as we go through this day. We will seek God and find God when we seek him with our whole being.
