September 4, 2024 Recovery Is A Team Sport!

I recently watched a reflection video and found the speaker’s message fitting for each of us in Recovery. “A long time ago when suitcases did not have wheels I was walking in an airport with too many things in my hands. As you can imagine, I was struggling and complaining that I had no one to help me. And just as I thought poor me I caught a glimpse of my reflection in a window. I realized I had a carry-on with wheels and a bungee cord. I stopped and laughed at myself and placed the carry-on on the belt. I noticed relief and looked back into the window reflection realizing (my burden was lifted)”.

Recovery wants us to rely on what it offers, especially those who labor and need rest. How often do we unthinkingly carry our burdens ourselves? Why is it we do not turn to people and groups for help? Why is it that we too easily forget the antidote that saves us again and again? A life well lived is where we cling to Recovery. This clinging is not mindless, superstitious, or to appease ourselves. Living a life with the love offered by the Divine and people invites us to love them back.

Life with healing is good, our burdens will be lifted, and our ways will be smooth when we walk using the 12-steps. We radically accept our walk will not be pain-free. We know stuff happens in life. A loved one becomes dangerously ill, a friend may betray us, we may even lose a job, and our list goes on and on when it comes to difficulties in our lives. As subjects of Recovery, we face challenges by clinging to our plan of Recovery to help us overcome difficult moments.

We are not in control. It is our heart’s leap of faith to trust in the 12-steps. When we give people our burdens we will find light in the way best for us, to find the strength to work through the pain and discourse for ourselves and people. This will help us mature in Recovery and dare we say grow in wisdom. When we let go and trust our inner spiritual dialogue it will help us realize the old in us is dead and a new day is dawning involving hope, healing, and health.
