August 12, 2024 Gulf Anyone?

We ask our children if they want to receive gifts or go on a family vacation each Christmas. The last two years they elected to do a family vacation. This year we traveled to the gulf staying in Fort Morgan Alabama. The variety of activities available at Fort Morgan in Gulf Shores makes it a great place to bring your family for fun-filled days. Surrounded on three sides by water, the historic site encompasses over 600 acres of beautiful landscape and scenic views of Mobile Bay and the Gulf of Mexico.

My wife’s parents, three grandchildren, a son-in-law, and a friend of our middle daughter joined us. Our activities included spending time at the pool, enjoying the beautiful white sand of the beach, playing cards, putting together puzzles, and fishing.

Our grandson helped my wife and I attempt to catch a fish. He would cast for us and we would reel the line to the shore. After a few tries my wife snagged one. She was tickled with excitement jumping up and down along the shoreline. As for me, I reeled in about five fish toward the shore. However, each time I was close to catching one they released their mouths from the clutches of the hook and swam back into the gulf.

I did a lot of observing during our time together. The thrill, joy, and happiness of everyone brought me joy and happiness. One of our daughters said this was the best family vacation ever. Without taking a further poll I think her thoughts were a consensus of the group.

A few more highlights. My son-in-law and our grandchildren caught several shrimp and crab. One evening for supper we had a shrimp boil. The next evening people feasted on crab cakes. I had a taste of the crab meat which made my mouth water due to the freshness of the meat.

This family vacation has come to a close. I wonder what our children will decide to do for Christmas this year?
