July 29, 2024 It Is Time To Sing!

Recovery talks to us by giving us a profound guideline, “The 12 steps or other methods”. When we focus on the words each step begins with “We” not “I”. We are all brought together as brothers and sisters in the practice of the steps or other methods. We unite as a family which has implications when we practice the steps/program. Some of us may get caught up memorizing the steps/program without directly connecting to our hearts.

Healing is meant to be felt and a personal relationship with a Recovery program. The program for each of us is unique and includes using methods other than the steps. Words we use are meant to tie us into a relationship with our brothers and sisters (support groups or with other people). The steps or another program are not a task to be done but a relationship to be lived.

How much are we into our Recovery program? When we practice our program we want to live out our relationship with healing. What are our hearts saying to Recovery? This is not about words – What are our inner lives hearing from our hearts? Is it a cry for forgiveness? A hope our Higher Power (for me God) intervening in a situation? What is a deeper heartfelt connection with Recovery? Our Higher Power is hearing us not just saying the words but a deeper message we want to convey to the Higher Power.

Recovery is not a task to be done, but a practice to be lived. It is not the length of time but it is a heart-felt connection. When we practice our program three words are as effective as 100 words – integrating the heart is the key. A Higher Power talks about forgiveness. Our Higher Power is open to reconciling divisions due to our shortcomings.

If our meditation, reflection, or prayer is sincere we want to be forgiving, merciful, and like our Higher Power. When we forgive our heart, mind, and relationship with Recovery and community come together in a beautiful crescendo.
