When I began my Recovery there were people with good intentions readily available to show me the way. Some people took me up to a high mountain and showed me all the tools I could use to heal.
Some people wanted me to follow their advice blindly. Some said a particular approach would only cost me a little (emotionally, mentally, and spiritually). Some of the tools offered to me seemed too good to be true. I determined some of the approaches to be unacceptable offers altogether.
As I take further steps in my Recovery I connect with safe people and learn from them the tools that are helping me Recover. There are no shortcuts to healing. The cost? It is following people with the tools and experience to take me where I want to go in Recovery.
Not every person has our best interest in mind. Our strength comes from other people we connect with, which leads us toward happiness. The objective is to discern who those people are and find out what Recovery tools bear fruit for them. Then go ahead and try them on for size. If it does not work for us it’s ok. We constantly need to remind ourselves that the journey to wholeness is unique for each of us. Remain hopeful and keep falling forward.
Peace
Larry
