Shepherds have a critical role in caring for their sheep. When sheep leave the path they are moving along on or get lost it is the responsibility of the Shepherd to guide them back to their flock.
When I offer support to people (Shepherd) utilizing the 12 steps it helps me guide people back into full Recovery when they are lost or not on the right path. In turn, I have Shepherds who help guide me back to the 12 steps when I lose ground in my Recovery.
I pick up on people whose heart is hard. They wander around looking for a remedy that is impossible to find. Unfortunately, they are not free. People who have a soft heart are free. Generally, they are kind and generous, do the right thing, and are merciful about their behavior when they do something wrong.
What have we learned about being faithful to our Recovery? We hang in there despite a rough patch or working through our addictions. We have power to rid ourselves of worry, pain, and suffering. First receiving support from other people, and second, following a program that helps us not get lost on our journey toward healing.
Peace
Larry
