January 8, 2024 In My Book…

In my book, “SuperHuman Being” a part of the subtitle includes, “Being Present.” I continue to have moments of tranquility and peace. I also continue to suffer from sadness and anxiety. The experts tell me to get in touch with my body, allow my mind to be flexible, make room to accept the present moment, and surf for urges. These are skills of mindfulness.

I notice an increase in my ability to be in the present moment. Although I must admit I still need to deepen this value into my daily living.

I have participated in several sessions on learning the skill of mindfulness. I notice those who participate with me appear to feel an increase in serenity after suffering for a long time with their sadness and anxiety.

My action plan for Recovery has several goals I focus on that reflect my Recovery values. If I shared my list with you mindfulness would not be included. “Being Present” is something I am constantly reminding myself to center on. However, sitting in a chair or lying on my back focusing on the present moment is difficult. My mind bounces from one thought to another, making it impossible for me to anchor in the present moment.

I have attempted several different types of mindfulness during my 30 years of Recovery. Some of them I continue to use today. The “Present Moment” practice is not a staple in my Recovery diet. I share this with you because not all skills and techniques we learn are eatable and it is ok to not feed ourselves. This is normal. Recovery for each of us is unique just as we are unique and a wonderful human being.

Peace

Larry
