Equipping yourself as you continue your recovery journey increases your odds of successfully managing your mental health condition and substance use disorder. This does not mean you will have days that your symptoms will not be overwhelming, this also means you will have overwhelming feelings and give in to your urges. Perfection means to being imperfect and you will have moments of darkness on your journey through recovery.
You can have a care plan to help you get through dark moments when you allow your feelings to take over, or you give in to your urges. Realize all is not wasted. You have inside you what it takes to get back on track.
In a moment when your life seems hopeless, identify reasons for living. Some examples may include: You have been blessed with skills and talents that the world desperately needs, your friends and family bring you joy or your spiritual beliefs impact your thinking, feelings, and the sacredness of your body.
When you experience a crisis what are things that make you feel better? Some things may include: Spending time with your pet, going for a walk outside and enjoying nature, doing a fun activity such as goofy golf, or watching your favorite television show.
In your moments when the light around you is just a spec in the sky, grasp onto HOPE, “Hold on pain ends”.

“To leave our self-defeating behaviors behind, we must use the conscious mind to undermine the destructive but unconscious beliefs that cause us to defeat ourselves”. Milton Cudney & Robert Hardy
