July 13, 2023 Top Five Lessons of Recovery

Earlier today I was on a Zoom call with other authors. Each person in the group is either a published author or in the process of becoming an author. We agreed that our work is about serving people and creating a supportive community through the books we write.

I consider each person registered to receive my daily blog a part of our supportive Recovery community. Based on my years of experience in Recovery I want to share my top five lessons of Recovery.

  1. Connection with a Higher Power.
  2. Attend a weekly support group (free).
  3. A therapist that connects with our hearts. A psychiatrist prescribes medication to balance the chemicals in our brains that affect mood.
  4. Daily exercise.
  5. Clean eating – Protein, Vegetables, Fruits, Nuts/Seeds – Refrain from processed foods.

I made a list like this several months ago in one of my blogs. I did not look back at what I wrote because this is what others have told me is working for them now and it aligns with my current Recovery. During Recovery, our list can change daily, weekly, monthly, and yearly. Warning: If a person prescribes to you what your Recovery plan is “Run for the Hills.” 🙂

Each of us is unique in terms of our Recovery. If something you try does not work rather than giving up find another tool or skill that works for you. Caution: “Don’t get caught up in your mental health condition, addiction, and trauma that you forget who you are”. This is a hazard of Recovery.

We have been given abundant blessings. We are beautiful, strong, and full of hope. Take one small step today to support your recovery and continue to do this each day. By doing this you will find your home.

Peace

Larry
