I hope that wherever you are, you know Recovery is with you.
It is easier to begin Recovery with a support system and respect for the traditions. This gives us a sense of “place” and can have a lasting impact on our lives. Even when Recovery gives us “a resistance to fight with,” it helps us grow.
Some of us fall in love with sadness, anxiety, and trauma. They become our first sense of home and an extension of who we are. We may spend our whole lives building a fence around them.
Without our Loyal Recovery, we would be aimless and shapeless. We would have no home base and no lasting relationships. Loyal Recovery helps guide us as we grow.
It also helps calm our superego so we can develop a healthy conscience as adults. Our superego can make us feel we must always follow its rules or live by others’ expectations. Through Recovery, we begin to discover our true selves instead of hiding behind these old patterns.
When we fully engage in Recovery, we open our hearts to change and growth.
There is a deeper voice of Recovery that we must learn to hear and follow in the second half of our journey. This voice may sound like calculated risk-taking, trust, surrender, soul, common sense, destiny, and love. It may feel like the voice of an intimate stranger—our deepest self calling us home.
This is where the true Recovery journey begins.
Finally, we have a box strong enough to hold the contents of our real lives. It holds our past wounds, our Recovery journey, and the challenges ahead. It holds our warts, our gifts, and the parts of ourselves that still need healing.
Wholeness and Recovery will always stretch us beyond our small comfort zone.
What do you think about this for your life and Recovery?
Listening for the voice of Recovery to speak to me is something I continue to learn about. I am growing in my understanding and learning how to apply it to my life.
This practice can be challenging. My pride, ego, and past relationships can get in the way. I am learning to allow God, life, destiny, and soul to loosen the grip of my ego.
Until now, my ego has made me feel as though I have lived a solo existence, with myself as the only authority I know.
As I embrace Recovery, I discover a resurrection within me and a deeper connection with others in Recovery. It is here that I find my authentic self and the Recovery that God has written on my heart.
Remember, Recovery is happening right now, in this moment.
