July 24, 2026 “We Rise By Falling!”

I hope wherever you are, you know Recovery is with you right where you are.

Do you want to know one of the greatest secrets of Recovery? It is only revealed to those who are willing to receive it. No one can force this truth upon us. We discover it only when we are ready.

The secret is this: the way up is often the way down. Before we can truly rise, we must first be willing to fall.

Think about the story of Sleeping Beauty. She slept for one hundred years before she received the prince’s kiss. Jesus first endured the cross before the joy of the resurrection. Again and again, we see the same pattern: loss comes before new life. It is not really a secret. It is simply a truth we often resist.

Recovery follows this same pattern. We naturally want to move toward the light. We do not want to enter the darkness. After working so hard to build a better life, the thought of falling again can feel discouraging. Yet sometimes the old way of living must fall apart before something stronger can take its place.

Recovery is an inside journey, even though it is often shaped by events outside of us. Along the way, we all experience what some call necessary suffering. We lose. We fail. We make mistakes. We fall short. None of these experiences are pleasant, but they can become some of our greatest teachers. They help shape our hearts and draw us closer to God.

Before I fully committed myself to Recovery, I did everything I could to avoid suffering. I tried to stay in control. I ran from pain because I was afraid it would pull me into despair. That way of living left me exhausted.

Over time, I realized something important. I needed to stop running. I needed to admit my pain, understand it, and trust God to walk with me through it. That choice did not destroy me. Instead, it helped me fall upward.

My failures taught me how to show myself compassion. They deepened my relationship with God. They reminded me that there is no Easter Sunday without Good Friday. New life often begins where we least expect it.

The truth is, we usually grow more through our mistakes than through our successes. Recovery is not about getting everything right. It is about allowing God to use every fall, every wound, and every setback to help us become the people He created us to be.

Reflection:
Do you believe that some of your greatest growth has come through your struggles? Why or why not?

Remember, Recovery is happening right now, in this moment.
