I hope wherever you are, you know Recovery is with you right where you are.
Publishing my second book, Daily Devotional: 12 Steps to Unshakeable Recovery, has helped me connect with many people. I have taken part in four events so far. I feel happy when someone buys one of my books. But more than that, I truly enjoy getting to know people and hearing a part of their story. We all have a story to tell, don’t we?
One person bought a Daily Devotional for their partner and shared about their partner’s struggle with substance misuse. Another person told me they had been clean and sober for over ten years, but then relapsed two years ago. Each night before bed, they now use the Daily Devotional to reflect.
The person who touched my heart the most came to my booth and handed me one dollar. They said, “I want to support your cause,” and smiled. Their kindness brought a smile to my face. In that moment, I gave them a book. They may not have been able to afford one, yet they gave what little they had to support others in Recovery.
These moments give me hope. They show me that Recovery is alive and moving in people’s lives. As an author, I share words and ideas. But the people I meet are the true heart of Recovery. Their stories, their faith, and their courage matter deeply.
I walk away from these encounters feeling like I have received more than I could ever give in a book.
