I hope that wherever you are, you know Recovery is with you—right where you are.
True wisdom is not just knowing what to do. It is seeing with the eyes of Recovery. There is a moment in prayer or quiet reflection when listening becomes a way of learning. In the stillness of Recovery’s presence, wisdom begins to grow inside us.
Wisdom is not simply information. It is the gentle understanding of what Recovery is asking of us. It does not come from pressure or fear. Recovery wisdom is seeing life the way the 12 steps see it—through clarity, peace, and honesty.
Many people think wisdom only comes with age. That can be true, because our experiences teach us. But Recovery tells us something deeper: wisdom is a gift from God—our Higher Power. It does not come from our own strength. It flows into the hearts of those who slow down, listen, and stay open.
Wisdom comes through the 12-step process. It cuts through confusion and brings calm to our minds. When we listen with our whole hearts, we learn that wisdom rarely comes like lightning. It comes as a soft shift inside us—a new way of seeing.
Wisdom always arrives with love. Here are two simple ways to welcome it:
Before making any decision, pause and ask God—your Higher Power—for wisdom.
Notice what brings peace. Wisdom often hides inside that peace.
Several years ago, I struggled deeply with a major decision. I felt torn and unsure. I finally reached out to my parish priest for guidance. I asked him how I would know what God wanted me to do. He said, “When you make your decision, you will be at peace with it.”
We come to Recovery not to be perfect or certain, but to be faithful. We learn to notice the difference between the calm voice of the 12 steps and the old noise of our pre-Recovery thoughts.
And in that noticing, wisdom begins to lead us forward.
Peace
Larry
