June 6, 2025 Leaping for Joy & Hope!

This will be my last post until Monday, June 16, 2025. During the interim, if you need some food to fill your soul, you can access previous blogs at my website https://superhumanbeing.net/blog/

There is a lot about the actions I have taken in Recovery that I don’t recall. Recently, in my role as a peer specialist, people express the sadness they feel upon entering Recovery. This reminds me of the first couple of years of my Recovery. Looking back, I didn’t feel any joy and little hope.

I leaped to act on the healing power of the 12 steps. I was depressed, sad, and anxious. Despite the hope Recovery presented me, I mourned the loss I felt inside. What if we allow ourselves to mourn and be joyful about being in Recovery?

It is healthy to mourn, but what may not be healthy is when it is connected to misery; we may say, “I have been sad my entire life, and am at a loss on how to let go of the darkness inside of me.”

What if we showed ourselves kindness and sought hopefulness that healing is possible?

Yes, there is loss as we walk the road of Recovery. We will think, feel, and act differently in six months. I believe there is joy and hope to balance our mourning. What can we do to balance mourning, joy, and hope in our lives? What can we do to radically accept our feelings short of being miserable?

Have a blessed week, friends.
