Hope is a heartfelt recognition that nothing can keep us from Recovery’s love. To keep hope alive in our Recovery, we need to talk about it, seek it in our everyday activities, and feed it to fortify our daily journey.
These are ways I integrate hope into my Recovery:
- When I am in doubt about my mental health condition, I seek counsel from God and people on my care team. In return, I give counsel to other recoverees who are suffering from a similar condition.
- I seek knowledge from a recoveree or another person when I am confused about my symptoms. In return, I offer knowledge to the recovery group I facilitate weekly. https://superhumanbeing.net/thursday-zoom-event/
- I am open to receiving correction from my care team. In return, I compassionately and with love give correction to a recoveree when it is necessary.
- I need to be patient with my Recovery. When my symptoms return, I say to myself, “My feelings right now are not permanent. With time, it will get better.” In return, I am patient with recoverees by listening to them.
- When a person hurts me, I work at softening my heart and forgive them. In return, I teach others about the importance of mercy. It is vital to our spiritual, emotional, and mental health.
Pam Sininek, in her talk about a Pilgrimage of Hope, says, “This (hope) will look different for each one of us. We each have different gifts, talents, and are at different stages of our pilgrimage (Recovery). We are all at a different mile marker. I don’t expect what works for me will work for all of you.”
Suggested Action Step:
- How can you profess hope (Recovery) in your life?
- How can you seek hope (Recovery) in your life?
- How can you share hope (Recovery) in your life?
