April 28 Remember The Living and The Dead! Part #16

We have covered six of the seven spiritual works of mercy:

  1. Counsel the doubtful
  2. Share knowledge
  3. Give corrections to those who need them
  4. Be patient with others
  5. Forgive those who hurt us.
  6. Comfort the sorrowful
  7. Remember the living and the dead

Pam Sininek, in her talk about a Pilgrimage of Hope, says, “The best things about our faith is that we have the belief we are still in relationship to those that have passed on to heaven.”

Remembering the dead memorializes our connection with them. We recognize they had a significant spiritual impact on our lives.

I have been requested to pray for people who are alive. I view this as a tremendous privilege since it creates an emotional connection to the person I am praying for. Pam says, “When we support the spiritual needs of others, we are showing them God’s (higher power) love, it is a promise never to abandon them.”

Remembering the living and the dead is sharing hope with them, it is a component of the Recovery journey. We bring our love to them to form a deep spiritual connection.

Suggested Action Step: Take a moment today to remember the living and the dead during your prayer time, reflection time, or mindfulness practice.
